Introducing Gert Lush, Somerset’s untraditional take on a classic Camembert

Made on a certified organic 22-acre smallholding in the north of the Blackmore Vale, Gert Lush is a modern interpretation of Normandy’s most iconic cheese. Nodding to tradition while celebrating the best of Somerset, Gert Lush comes from one of Britain’s most unconventional and irreverent cheesemaking dairies, Feltham’s Farm.

Rustic and indulgent, with mushroom and earthy notes channelling some of the hallmarks of a classic Camembert, Gert Lush gets its West Country edge from some top quality and locally sourced organic milk. Collected daily by co-founder and head cheesemaker, Marcus Fergusson, the milk brings a more rich, buttery and balanced character to the cheese, which becomes stronger and more velvety as it ages, beneath a soft and delicate white rind.

The fourth cheese from Feltham’s Farm, which is run by Marcus Fergusson and Penny Nagle, Gert Lush follows in the illustrious footsteps of their first creation; the gooey, funky, and drunkenly washed Renegade Monk. Mashing up styles to create something entirely new, somewhere in the vicinity of an Epoisses but with hints of blue, Renegade Monk went onto win a host of awards, including the Supreme Champion trophy at the Virtual Cheese Awards in 2020, which Feltham’s Farm won again the following year with La Fresca Margarita.

With a range now encompassing everything from the lightest queso fresco-style to one of the most powerful cheeses in the UK, Feltham’s Farm has continued to receive critical acclaim for its work. Gert Lush has already picked up Gold prizes at the Artisan Cheese Awards and the British & Irish Cheese Awards, as well as a 2-star accolade from Great Taste.

Gert Lush is available to purchase from selected Waitrose stores, independent retailers across the UK and from felthamsfarm.com, priced at £9.00 (220g).
